Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) Tools

The cornerstone of a professional localization service is a computer-assisted translation (CAT) tool. CAT tools accelerate and standardize the translation process, allowing the human linguist to focus on the most important part, the language. CAT tools identify and flag possible repetition in text and cross-reference the current material with translation memories where applicable. This saves the linguist time (and the client money!) and ensures lexical consistency across both the document and a given client’s body of work as a whole. By streamlining the repetitive work and automating much of the quality control process, translators and editors are able to focus on generating content that is stylistically and terminologically precise.

memoQ

Glyph's CAT tool of choice is Kilgray's memoQ. memoQ offers a rich and growing feature set, including:

  • terminology management
  • project management
  • quality assurance
  • flexible filters for non-translatable terms
  • reference resources
  • sophisticated translation memories
  • reporting
  • customizability
  • integration or compatibility with most other CAT tools in the industry

Translation Management System

If CAT tools maximize the efficiency and quality of the translation process itself, Translation Management Systems (TMS) do the same for the translation project overall. A TMS is designed to manage the stages of a translation project other than the translation and editing stages. This means preparing and transmitting quotes, managing source, and output materials in a secure way, and allowing our project managers to manage multiple projects with disparate timelines, parameters, and constraints. In short, a TMS improves the efficiency, transparency, and repeatability of our translation workflows.

XTRF

The TMS that Glyph uses is XTRF. XTRF offers an intuitive interface (for both Glyph staff and our clients via our client portal), an ISO-certified information security program, and a growing set of integrations with other business tools in the industry, including our CAT tool of choice, memoQ. XTRF also offers a Client Portal that offers a way to request quotes, check on projects, and manage invoices that is faster and more secure than email. For more information about the client portal, check out our Localization 101 page, or go directly to the client portal to get started.

Other Tools

Adobe® Creative Cloud®

Our support staff are experienced with all of the Adobe® tools needed to localize rich media for an impactful user experience. We work in InDesign®, Illustrator®, Photoshop®, After Effects®, Captivate® and Premiere® on a daily basis, in dozens of languages.

SDL WorldServer

If your localization operation depends on WorldServer, SDL's translation management system, let us know - our staff are conversant with this tool and can work in it if required to integrate with your projects.

Articulate Storyline®

eLearning localization is a specialization at Glyph, and our support staff is experienced with Articulate Storyline®. Your eLearning content will arrive in its localized form looking as polished as it did when you sent it to us.

Smartcat

Smartcat is a platform that encompasses a CAT tool a translation management system and more. While it's not our tool of choice, we do have experience within this platform and can use it if the need arises.

Jira® & BugHerd

As part of our in-context review and testing services, our staff are experienced with documenting bugs with both Jira® and BugHerd.

SDL Trados

SDL Trados is another common CAT tool with a similar feature set and deep support framework. While it's not our tool of choice, we are experienced with it and can use it on request. Let us know if this is a requirement!

Integrations

As tools and workflows grow in complexity, it is increasingly important for tools to integrate seamlessly. This kind of integration supports both usability and the security of the information in transit. No more emailing attachments!

XTRF/Glyph API

Our TMS, XTRF, has API functionality that allows it to integrate with a client's CMS. This enables your team to submit content and project parameters without leaving their own CMS. This way your staff don't need to learn another system, and the likelihood of a mistake (or just another mail without an attachment) is minimized. Glyph has developed an XML schema and accompanying file format (.glff) that is designed to include all of the parameters necessary to get a quote or project underway. We prefer to receive files in this format through the API, since it guarantees that we get all of the information we need to get started on the project or quote. However, we can accept a wide variety of files, including multilingual .po/.pot or .csv/xlsx, as well as simple text strings, or design files, including Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office file formats. For more information about our XTRF API, please see our API documentation

Let’s connect!

To our valued community,

With the inevitable measures that all businesses need to undertake to support staff and clients, I would like to provide you with an update on our operations. For over 5 years 100% of our staff have been trained and able to work remotely while still maintaining weekly office days for collaboration and team building. We have cultivated business platforms and operations that run digitally without sacrificing security, service quality or capabilities during the better part of the last decade. As of March 9th, all company operations were transferred to work-from-home with no expected change in services, capacity or staff availability.

We understand that many of our partners have experienced challenges due to having a large international presence and multilingual employees. As a result, we are extending our help by monitoring requests after business hours and on weekends for projects associated with the coronavirus. This is to ensure we provide you with the best possible support and the fastest turnaround possible.

If you do have time-sensitive requests associated with the coronavirus, please send them to newrequests@glyphservices.com and include a clear subject line or title so we can act accordingly “COVID-19 Translation”.

We encourage you to reach out if there’s anything we can do to help you and your team during this difficult time. We sincerely hope you, your family, and colleagues remain safe and healthy.

Best wishes,

Viktoriya, CEO
